My parents are building a home, so they have been going on day adventures in search of the perfect materials. This past Sunday, I tagged along with them while they went in search of windows. We ended up at several unique places, one being a "shop" on the side of the road selling stained glass windows. These treasures came all the way from Europe, from houses and churches and castles being torn down, I assume to make way for more modern architecture. Each window was still contained in it's original casing, most of which were coated with years of paint layers. There were even some complete doors, and several windows were sets of rectangle panels or even arched designs.
The "shop" was actually all outdoors with the exception of a tiny shed that housed a few pieces of furniture and two treadle sewing machines (which of course I found very interesting!). The afternoon was cool but brilliantly sunny, and the sunlight made the colors and textures and designs of the windows come alive! I couldn't help but snap pictures for future inspiration. Each piece was truly a delightful treasure!
My parents settled on 2 small windows and made a deal with the humorous couple running the place. Later, when the house is built and the windows are installed, I'll remember that lovely little side of the road when I see them. :)
